Meet James Kennerley, our featured performer for Bach's (belated) 338th birthday concert on April 1st, 4 p.m. at St. Francis by the Sea!Get tickets: bit.ly/3ZHZzwDMulti-faceted musician, James Kennerley, is a conductor, keyboardist, singer, and composer whose performances are known for their illustrious flair and thrilling virtuosity, subtlety and finesse. Mr. Kennerley was appointed the Municipal Organist of Portland, Maine in 2017. Since September 2019 he has been Director of Music at Saint Paul’s Church and Choir School in Harvard Square, Cambridge MA, directing the choir of boy choristers and professional men. Mr. Kennerley has given solo harpsichord concerts throughout the United States and Europe to great acclaim. A longtime member of NYC-based early music ensemble, Sonnambula, Mr. Kennerley is also a member of New Vintage Baroque, a cutting-edge ensemble dedicated to the performance of early music and contemporary repertoire. A prize-winning composer, he specializes in music for organ and choral ensembles, and in works that incorporate historic instruments. Lauded as an “excellent, true-toned tenor” by New Yorker critic Alex Ross, Mr. Kennerley has performed with many groups, including the Choir of Trinity Wall Street, TENET, and the Clarion Music Society. A native of the United Kingdom, Mr. Kennerley holds degrees from Cambridge University and The Juilliard School. He holds the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists diploma. St. John's Organ Society invites you to three evenings of music devoted to César Franck (1822-1890) and contemporaries - October 10, 11, and 12 at 7:30 pm - at St. John's Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor, Maine. Don't miss this unique opportunity to hear the exquisitely lyrical music of César Franck on period instruments in the exceptional acoustics of St. John's Catholic Church. Franck's music has been described as “heavenly, serene, soulful, comforting….“ Come hear for yourself and invite a special friend! You will be transported back to the 19th century through the sounds of period instruments including E. & G.G. Hook's magnificent organ, Opus 288 and a Parisian Harmonium by Alexandre Père & Fils.
